Using the About.com Eating Disorders Site

Friday August 8, 2008

Welcome to the Eating Disorders site at About.com! If you're new to this site or haven't looked around, I'd like to introduce you to the resources available here. They go well beyond the page you're viewing right now.

My goal is to give you accurate and helpful information about eating disorders. This information comes in a bunch of ways that you can use to fit your needs:

  • You're already reading the blog. You can find entries here from as far back as late 2006.

  • The real bread and butter of the site, where information exists in the most depth, is in a host of articles, profiles, definitions, and resource reviews. The basics, beginning with "What Are Eating Disorders," are quickly available in the "Must Reads" section above. But you'll find specific information on statistics, how to help a friend, eating disorder quizzes, and much more under the categories shown under "Browse Topic" at left.
  • Hundreds of readers have signed up for my free weekly newsletter, which gives you quick access to recent postings.
  • Finally, you may want to discuss what you're reading, or a concern you have, with like-minded people in the eating disorders forum. Ask a question, or just read the conversations. You may find that others have walked before you and have wisdom you can use.

And there's more. The Eating Disorders site is part of the Health Channel at About.com, which includes dozens of other topics. You'll find insightful content on Women's Health, Diabetes, Depression, Alcoholism, and many more. Each site is fueled by an expert in her or his field with a unique perspective.

I think you'll be astounded by the amount of information you can unearth at About.com. And where you don't find an answer, ask! You may find that a guide writes a piece just to answer your question. It's happened here at the Eating Disorders site, and I'm more than happy to learn about what you find compelling and respond appropriately. Enjoy the Eating Disorders site and all the sites available on the Health Channel and About.com!
