I left my long term job at 55 years old and decided on a counselling course. I have a long history working within the caring proffession. I am now a qualified counsellor and Master Practitioner of Eating Disorders and very passionate about my work – I suffered from an eating disorder in my teens and feel that there is a much unmet need for specialist counselling in this area. However, I have been so let down in looking for suitable employment and struggle so hard to work as a private practice. I have found it impossible to get any help or acknowledgement from Primary care or NHS – always being asked to work voluntary! Well I have a mortgage to pay and cannot spend any more of my time working voluntary. I feel strongly that the voluntary sector has seriously devalued this proffession and I feel very let down and wonder if there is anyone out there who would give me the chance to use my skills appropriatly.
