Why is preoccupation with body fat a red flag? Isn't avoiding fat a good thing?

Not necessarily. We need certain kinds of fats for our bodies to work correctly. Plus, many people believe that body fat automatically comes from fat in foods, and they avoid these foods for that reason. First, this isn't true. Second, rigid avoidance of foods that you like (rather than moderation) is a kind of dieting, and dieting is often a precursor to eating disorders of various kinds. Healthy eating involves freedom!
