If guilt is present in your eating, it means that you have labeled what you are doing as "bad," and you wish you were always "good." This is black-and-white thinking. When we think in absolutes, we almost always fall short of what we think is "good." The discouragement makes us want comfort, and the easiest place to go for comfort is what is familiar to us--restricting food, binging on food, or some other eating disorder behavior.
Kindness to oneself is hard for many of us, and especially hard for those who struggle with eating disorders.
