When You'd Rather Be Engaged in Emotional Eating

Have you ever caught yourself looking in the refrigerator and saying, possibly aloud, "I'm not hungry. What am I doing here?"

You may have the sense that you're bored. Eating can fill the boredom void just as it can fill needs created by anxiety, loneliness, sadness, or anger.

However, boredom can be a cover for something deeper. This is a great time to ask yourself what you really want. You now know that it isn't food. Perhaps you simply wanted a change of scenery, or to get away from something difficult. Where were you before you went to the kitchen? Were you in conversation? Watching TV? Paying bills?

A closer look at what happened before your trip to the fridge can help you understand what motivates your emotional eating.
