Definition: Minerals that aid in keeping fluid level in balance in the body, and that certain cells use to facilitate the transfer of electrical impulses. These impulses include signals to contract muscles and to allow nerves to fire.
Pronunciation: ee-lek-tro-lites
Examples: With her muscles lacking electrolytes, Gretchen began to feel cramps.
