Definition: A condition present when bone mineral density is less than normal, but not so low that it has led to osteoporosis. A symptom of anorexia nervosa.
Pronunciation: ahs-tee-oh-PEEN-ee-ah
Examples: When she was diagnosed with osteopenia, Marilyn decided to add calcium to her diet and exercise more regularly.
